Two 1/4-scale RC model frames with two stories and one span were subjected to cyclic, lateral loads to investigate the seismic behavior of the lower part of an eleven-story RC frame building. Variation in axial load was the variable for the two frames. The specimens maintained their lateral load carrying capacity, even at drift ratios of more than 6%. The tests provided measurements of beam elongation, column shortening and variation of shear force in each column. Good agreement was found between the analytical and experimental load-displacement relationships. Also, the analytical curvature for the frame components with respect to the frame drift matched the experimental ones well.
