This paper presents the results of an experimental study on two Engineering Wood Encased Concrete-Steel (EWECS) exterior beam-column joints under varying axial load and lateral load reversals. The parameter investigated was the types of failure mode; beam flexural failure and joint shear failure. The results indicated that EWECS exterior beam-column joints had a stable hysteresis response. In addition, excellent damage control performance was observed for the joint with beam flexural failure due to the higher uplift displacement occurred at the woody shell connection between column and beam. |
