Cracking in concrete structure due to corrosion of steel is one of the major factors inducing degradation of its durability and even premature failure. In order to predict crack opening and its propagation based on numerical or theoretical modeling, mechanical behavior of rust between steel and concrete are necessary. A simply approach is presented to determine mechanical properties of rust layer, namely, Young's Modulus, Poisson's ratio and ƒÐ-ƒÃ relationship by a conventional four-point bending test. Closed-form solutions are obtained for rust in linear and nonlinear range respectively. |
